The guidance program at MDECA is based on teaching monthly character traits.  These character traits are determined by our Character Strong Curriculum and reinforced monthly in the classrooms with songs, books, and activities. 

Character Strong is: Explicit, direct skill instruction designed to lead to 3 powerful outcomes: Be Strong, Be Kind, and Be Well. The instruction centers around 1 character trait per month. The content is vertically aligned from Pre-K through 5th Grade to build skills effectively.

At the end of each month, teachers nominate the “winners” of that month’s character trait.  Parents of winners are invited to watch their child receive the STAR student character award during an all-school assembly.
